International Kickboxing Federation / Point Kickboxing / Point Muay Thai
These are beginner competitions with rules regarding NO KNOCKOUTS. This is a great place to start competing. They advertise these matches as 'Hard Sparring'. Referees are very good at keeping the pace strong while keeping the fighters under control. They have both Muay Thai and Boxing events with this style of rules.
Rules for this type of competition can be found here.
There are a few ground rules I have if you are wanting to compete. These are my rules for you leading up to the competition.
For adults, 2 parties must agree for you to compete; Your coach & you. For youth, a 3rd party is involved, your parents. If any 1 of the parties doesn't want you competing, you won't compete. DO NOT sign up for a competition without talking to your coaches first, doing so may result in you not having coaches during your fight.
If you agree to compete, you are agreeing to the training schedule that we set up. I understand, family, school, work are priorities above training, however we will set up a training schedule and you must stick to it or text me ahead of time as to why you aren't making it to training that day. Unless discussed, this generally means you are in class Mon-Fri + Fighter Fitness on the weekend. And you are doing your own out of gym cardio 3 times per week.
Communicate with your coaches. If you feel like you need something, don't be afraid to ask. Want more pad holding, more sparring, help with your diet, don't be afraid to speak up.
For the most part these are amateur competitions but we must remain professional. If you sign up for a weight class, I expect you to make that weight. If you have never cut weight before, we must talk and create a game plan. The earlier we discuss, the better.
By signing up to compete you are agreeing to have all the proper equipment and you are wearing it to class every training session. This includes: Headgear, mouth piece, elbow pads (full contact only), hand wraps, 16oz gloves for Boxing/Muay Thai (MMA gloves for MMA), groin protector, & shin guards. Your gear must be in good shape, they won't let you compete if your equipment is falling apart.
