We have a group chat going where current students can chat. You will see announcements, fight videos, martial arts memes, and general discussions. You will need an instagram account to access. Feel free to add our instructors, request to join the group chat, and follow the Watsonville Muay Thai instagram page using the icons below
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Dojos tend to teach in a more relaxed and less rigid atmosphere than traditional martial arts. Nonetheless, in order to maintain a positive environment that is both conducive to learning and welcoming to potential students, we require our students, parents of students in the kids’ classes, and staff to adhere to the following Dojo Etiquette guidelines.
The following set of rules is meant to create a fun, safe, professional, and focused Gym environment. Please take the time to read this set of rules and ask any clarifying questions you may have. Any updates to this document will be announced publicly for review.
Failure to follow guidelines may prohibit future training.
Maintain good hygiene (i.e., shower and brush your teeth regularly) To prevent skin infections the CDC recommends showering before and after working out.
Bring a clean, dry gi to each class, and a rash guard or T-shirt for no-gi classes. Training in a dirty uniform is not allowed.
Uniforms must not have any offensive language or imagery.
A rash guard or t-shirt must be worn in no gi, and under your gi uniform is encouraged.
Keep finger and toenails short and clean to prevent injury to yourself and others.
No jewelry, watches, etc…can be worn on the mats. If it's hard, take it off.
Shoes or slippers must be worn off the mats.
Keep shoes off the mat, so that we can keep the mats clean and sanitary.
No training while sick.
Please bring any skin rashes to the office staff or instructor's attention.
Offensive tattoos are not to be displayed at any time.
Everyone is responsible for cleaning the mats at the end of class.
The general rule of thumb is this: Get in, get out.
Do not leave your uniforms, striking gear or equipment in the lockers overnight. They will be removed by our staff and placed in the lost and found. You will not be allowed to train in dirty or stinky gear.
Shirts or Rash Guards must be worn at all times in OPEN spaces.
No shirtless training.
Change clothes ONLY IN the changing room areas or the restroom only.
If you wish to take off your Gi, do so OFF the mat and in the changing areas. Especially if you do not have a shirt on.
Changing must be done in the changing room areas or restroom only. Do not change in front of others. We have kids sharing the same space.
No horseplay allowed.
No foul language. We are family friendly environment.
Everyone must be treated with courtesy and respect.
No horseplay allowed.
Always show respect to your instructors, training partners, and fellow human beings.
Respect in training means: do not seek to harm fellow students physically (e.g., by cranking on a submission harder than necessary to make them tap) or emotionally (i.e., by calling them names or making jokes about hurting them).
Respect also means that you must train seriously and hard enough for you and your partner to improve his or her skills, conditioning, and fighting spirit.
Do not come to class bare foot. While here, do not walk outside with bare feet. If you must go outside, wear sandals or shoes. Please be sure feet are clean before entering mats, (i.e. no dirt or sand)
Do not shout or use profanity in the dojo.
Do not talk while the instructor is talking. It distracts those who are trying to learn and is disrespectful to the teacher and those interested in what the teacher has to say.
Stand, sit with your legs crossed, or kneel during class. No lounging.
Please wear your gi, a T-shirt, or a tank top while in public areas of the Dojo. No bare backs.
Do not leave the mat during class or early without the instructor’s permission.
Keep cell phones off during class. Again, they distract those who are trying to learn.
If the instructor has not changed the task, then continue doing the task he or she has given (i.e., don’t sit around talking because you feel you have done a technique enough times). You can NEVER do a technique too many times.
Don't wear boxing or wrestling shoes outside the gym. NO in or out of the gym with boxing or wrestling shoes.
Don't wear boxing or wrestling shoes in the restroom. It's a must to change into slippers or other shoes prior to entering the restroom. Then you can change back into your boxing or wrestling shoes to enter the mats.
Boxing or Wrestling Shoes Clarification:
If wrestling or striking, and you need to come off the mat, you are required to remove your shoes and lace them back on once on the mat.
If you have shoes that have been worn outside the gym, your shoes should be cleaned and sanitized prior to being allowed back on the mats. It's your responsibility to have your instructor inspect your shoes before being allowed on the mats.
There are many different ways to wrap your hands, find a few videos like this one and try them out. You'll quickly learn what style of wrapping works best for you.
Before each sparring session we will conduct a check of our partner. This is to ensure we are keeping ourselves and our other training partners safe. Please familiarize yourself with the procedure.
