Bumps and bruises will be part of this sport. Invest in some ice packs, your body will thank you for having them on hand when you need them.Â
Here are a few items that can help speed along the healing process for minor sore muscles and bruises:
Namman Muay Thai Liniment Oil
Fantastic for sore muscles and bruises.
Aulief Gel (formerly China Gel)
Cheaper version of the Thai Oil. Works almost as good.
Arnica Gel
Great for sore muscles. You should be able to find at any CVS/Rite Aid Pharmacy type store.
More serious injuries can occur during combat sports. When in doubt go get things checked out by a doctor. When you get more than just a bump/bruise remember the acronym R.I.C.E.
Rest: Avoid using or putting weight on the injured area.
Ice: Apply ice packs to the injured area for 20 minutes at a time, several times a day.
Compression: Wrap the injured area with an elastic bandage to reduce swelling.
Elevation: Keep the injured area raised above the level of the heart to reduce swelling
Many of my students (and myself) get lower back or sciatica pain. Check out this great video by Dr. Brandon Thomas on some exercises to help with lower back and/or sciatica pain.
